The Amazing Spider-Man #560 Review

Peter Parker: Paparazzi! Part 2 of 3
"Flat Out Crazy"
Writer: Dan Slott
Art: Marcos Martin

Summary:
Peter is still a paparazzi. He goes around trying to take pictures of Bobby Carr, but everyone hates him for it. He starts feeling guilty when one of his pictures led to the death of this one lady. He fights the paper-doll girl and beats her when he gets another paparazzi to tell her that he won't mess with Carr anymore. Some subplots that took place were that Harry is still pissed at Peter, JJ is running around, and that Carr's publicist was in cahoots with Bennett regarding Carr's schedule and stuff. And the mystery girl: MJ!

Comments:
I enjoyed this issue. I think Slott is just perfect for Spider-Man, and he shows it again here by really providing a well plotted issue. The quirks weren't over the top, and the story was told well. Him and Zeb Wells are the best Spidey writers out there, and I am looking forward to what they do with MJ. Slott is making Peter go through tough situations, and he is learning from these situations. I thought the paper-doll girl was a little weak, but who knows. I hope Slott is writing the Anti-Venom arc later on. That would kick ass.

The Amazing Spider-Man #552 Review

Just Blame Spider-Man
Writer: Bob Gale
Art: Phil Jimenez

Summary:
We start with JJJ at his hospital bed, bitching about being bored. The nurse won't give him anything that would cause him stress. We go to the office of the DB, where Bennett is talking about getting him a bodyguard to protect him against "death threats". We go to Peter, who hides in a tree to get pictures of the funeral for the mayor candidate. We have Peter in the soup kitchen helping May. A thief steals a donation box. We got Spidey chasing after him, and finally catches him and webs him to a wall. Cops come and tell him to freeze. Spidey escapes, and the cops give the money back to the soup kitchen. We go back to the thief (I think he has a name, but it doesn't say in here so i don't know), who escapes from the webbing via taking his clothes off. He falls into a meth lab and takes some of that shit. Scratch that. The thief's name is Freak. We go back to the soup kitchen, and Peter tells the cops that he saw Spidey going after Freak. Back to Freak. He throws up, and the throw up engulfs him. We go to a fund-raiser to get Lily's dad to run for mayor. Harry pledges a lot of money and Peter doesn't. We go back to Freak, who is engulfed in a bloody clot. We found out that the "meth" that Freak did was actually animal stem cell. We go to the Bookie, who is doing bets with villains about who is in the blood clot. Peter is doing laundry, as news reports say the clot is breaking. Peter goes to take pictures of it, and it breaks open, revealing a freaky dude.

Comments:
It was an ok issue. I had a lot of problems with the dialog, and some of the scenes. Bob Gale is not a good writer. Some of the stuff he writes just sounds terrible, and I always stress good writing in comics. The scene with the laundry is just pointless. Joey Q needs to step up and take some of that filler shit out. I am just waiting for Slott and McGuinness to come back, because i really enjoy their stuff. Gale pretty much blows, and the art is not so great. Still enjoyable if you are a big Spidey fan, but you can just skip this one.

Verdict:
FORGET IT

The Amazing Spiderman #550 Review

The Menace of... Menace
Writer: Marc Guggenheim
Art: Salvador Larroca

Summary:
We start the issue with the Blue Shield trying to demask Spidey because he is breaking the registration act. A glider distracts Shield, and Spidey goes after the Goblin. Peter tries to un-mask the Goblin, but that set off an electrical charge. Goblin tells him not to mess with him, and gives Parker a cut in his stomach. We go to Jackpot, who helps up Spidey. She says her name is Sara Ehret. They check out the Menace's (new name) hideout, where they find blueprints to Apollo Theater. We go to Peter, who calls Lily and asks if she was with Harry last night, which she was. We check in on JJ, who is yelling at people. Marla doesn't tell him about the sale of the Bugle. We go to this guy who wants to sue Spidey. They say that he can file a John Doe suit, and wait for him to slip up. We go to Mr. Bennett, who says that he doesn't want to use his pictures of the Menace because of bad lighting. He then rips on JJ because he uses any picture he can get. We go to Peter, who is using Betty's computer because he doesn't have one. He gets the name of the guy who did the reporting on the Spider-Tracer murder. He meets Palone, and says that the tracer is an older model. Palone shows him a map of 5 killings, each having a tracer on the victims. He says he is holding him over for questioning. We go to the Apollo Theater, and the Menace interrupts a political debate. Back to Spidey. He sees the explosions at the Apollo, and is about to leave, but gets surrounded by the police.

Comments:
This was an allright issue. The main plus here is we get introduced to a new villain in Menace. He looks like a gray Goblin to me, but I am sure the writers will give him distinguishable attributes. I don't really like Larroca's art here. The guy who is with Slott is wayyyy better. I am not really sure what is up with Jackpot. She is way too shady for my liking. Probably the best part of this issue is the revelation that Spiderman is a suspect in 6 homicides, because someone had his tracers and placed them on murder victims. It will be interesting to see where that goes. The issue was allright, but nothing you need to get.

Verdict:
SKIM IT
