Last night was hectic as far as the WWE Draft goes. Whoa. And tomorrow is crazy because the comics are going to be great. Good week. Lets get to awards:

The candidates for the Rated R Superstar Award:

Incredible Hercules #118

X-Factor #32


The Winner- Wolverine #66

While there were some good reads out there, none great, Wolverine clocks in with the award. If you can ignore the absurdity of Millar's vision of the future, then you can look at the intriguing take on Logan's character and how it was handled. Accompanying that is McNiven's excellent artwork, and you got yourselves the Rated R Superstar of the week.








The candidates for the Rusty Venture (I think thats what its called? Yes it is) award:

Trinity #3

The Winner: Trinity #3

Again, I don't read all the comics like i used to, but this takes the cake for the worst thing I read all week. The story is stagnant and the take on the Trinity is something that is not new or innovative, and it just follows the formula. I am done with this stupid title.

Let me give my take on the Finals. That Celtics team is so likeable i swear. As an NBA fan who had no particular favoratism to any of these teams, the Celtics just came across as the more worthy, because they play hard defense. Thats it. The Lakers bitch about every call and they play no D. Can't have that. And on top of that, did anyone see in game 5 when Kobe bitched out Gasol for not catching a 150 mph no-look pass? Awful. The emotion from the Celtics permeated through my TV screen and it was one of my favorite championship celebrations of all time. As an avid Yankees fan, I am supposed to hate Boston fans (which i do), but hats off to them for booing David Stern. I don't know why. And Doc Rivers might be the worst in game coach in the game today, but he came through. Sure he won the finals, but do you recall when he started Leon Powe, never played him again, playing Tony Allen at point guard, running isos for Cassell, and running high screens with KG and Pierce 50 times a game. But all in all, good job. I was going to do awards, but I am just gonna do it on the Jam Session.

Take Tro (5/26/2008)

Very huge week coming up. I want to touch on this because it is clearly the biggest thing this year that I can recall. Lets see what we have:

• Final Crisis- This one is sure to be meaningful, if nothing else. If you are a DC fan, then I am sure you understand how important this event is going to be. This is the best book coming this week ----- Nuff said.
• Batman- Morrison said we won't see the Joker this issue, but who cares? Batman RIP is going to be fantastic, and Morrison is going to give us a hell of a good read. Tony Daniel has gone Super Sayan.
  
• All Star Superman- If there was truly a perfect comic book, this would be it. Words cannot describe how good this title is. It is just the perfect take on Superman.
  
• Astonishing X-Men- Do I really need to say anything? The biggest news here is that it is probably the 4th most anticipated book of the week. Holy cow.

Others include Green Lantern, Thor, Daredevil, Ultimate Spiderman, New Avengers, Action, and more. This week is just so loaded, and it is the perfect time of the year to be a comic book fan.

Take Tro (5/20/2008)

O.K so we have slacked off big time. I questioned the use of the blog, because I was honestly not motivated to do reviews or posts anymore. But here I am, on a Monday night at 12:49 doing a post that I haven't done in 4 months. Since we are lazy fuckers and don't do shit, we promise to change. We don't exactly know how yet, but we will shake things up a bit for the summer. We promise to keep most of the old in tact, but we might add some new features or so. Our target week for the revamp is the next one, so watch out for that.

So lets move on to some comic book talk. I just finished up Jeph Loeb's Dark Victory trade, and I must say it was excellent. This is just classic Batman. I don't know what Loeb is doing right now, but him and Sale really know how to tell good Batman stories. It was the sequel to Long Halloween, and I enjoyed it just as much. This one was more confusing, but Harvey Dent really shined, and we saw character progression for the Batman, Robin, and Catwoman. The plot was masterly weaved through 13 issues, and it really came together well at the end. Tim Sale is a master with his colors. I am not sure if he is the one that does it, but I really enjoy the large spaces of color. It just really contributes to the mood of the story. You guys need to pick this one up.

I want to touch on Thunderbolts. The Caged Angels arc is just so fantastic. Warren Ellis has done a tremendous job making Thunderbolts one of the best reads on the market. You never know when it is coming out, but when it does, please get it. The story would probably read better as a trade, because it isn't that deep, but its a lot of fun. Norman Osbourn is such a g. The first 5 pages of the recent issue was seriously some of the best stuff I have read all year. It is just Norman showing how crazy he really is, but its so awesome. You have to read it.

Batman kicked off the big R.I.P angle very nicely with the recent issue. The first 17 pages of so were mostly just set-up kind of stuff. But you should get this book for the freaking art. Tony Daniel outdid Grant Morrison here. Seriously, the last page of the Joker was so good looking. It was just awesome. I really think this will be a strong story. Even though I am a big Batman guy, I am still looking forward to Final Crisis more.

Jason Aaron is just kicking ass with Wolverine. I think he is leaving the title, but get the "Get Mystique" arc on trade if you don't own it. It is by far the best Wolverine story I have read. It is just really true to the character and it was just a lot of fun.

I am looking forward to Captain America. No shock there. Brubaker continues to kick ass.

I hope to post one of these every week. I can't promise it all being comic books, as i tend to go off on a tangent on long posts. I am really tired right now, so that is why I want to stop, but i have an urge to write about some other stuff (possible new blog coming.......... look out). On that last note, it probably won't happen, but me and The One and Only talked about it briefly. We have much more to offer than just comic books, trust us. The summer is coming, and we are going to revamp and reload.

Take Tro #2

The Cave is very sorry for no reviews this week. This was a terrible follow-up to our great debut week. We promise to get back on track next week and deliver some great reviews and critiques. I didn't read everything yet. I am still hoping to get around to reading Spider-Man and Countdown. I have read some things that really impressed me however. Let's take a look at my top 5 for this week:

1. The Twelve- I missed the first issue, but i knew what it was about. This is JMS' new project, and i must say, it impressed the hell out of me. The characters are really well done, and we got some great narration, and hopefully we are in for a great year-long miniseries.
2. Moon Knight- He didn't really slaughter anyone in this issue, but it was still a good read.
3. Silver Surfer- In Thy Name - I had no idea what was going on, but if u just gather all the narration together, you can read it like a book, thats how strong it was. This was the end of Spurrier's 2nd Silver Surfer Regime (He did Requiem before this), and i can't really judge it that well because I have read like half of it.
4. Uncanny X-Men- Down issue for me, simply for the fact that nothing happened. The plus that came out of it was that Brubaker continued to maturate Scott.

Worst book of the week that I have read was Nightwing. Now it probally could have been the best issue of the week, but I got bored after like 5 pages (he was a freaking tour guide), so i quit reading and banned the book.

Take Tro #1

This really was a good week in comics. The comics that were supposed to be good delivered. Cap, Batman, and Green Lantern gave us good reads this week, following up with Countdown and Daredevil. Of the books I have read this week, here is my top 5.

1. Captain America- debut issue for Bucky, and my boy Bru gave us a fantastic version of Cap that will stick around for years on end.
2. Batman- I love Batman, and this issue delved into the history of the Dark Knight in a great way.
3. Green Lantern- I still say this is a filler arc, but it is still really fun to read.
4. Daredevil- I love Brubaker, and he fills up 40% of my list for good reason. Brubaker makes Daredevil a real badass, but keeps the story moving.
5. Countdown- surprisingly not bad, and Jason Todd has an identity now.

Worst I read this week is probably Ultimate Spider-Man. My collegue liked it, but it was just average to me. Bendis handles dialog very well, but nothing happened in this issue. Magneto is in the next one, so that should be good.

Next week has some good books, but not many. We are treated to more Brubaker in Uncanny, and I am sure Justice Society of America will be good. The Cave will post some reviews to help you decide what to buy (wink wink).
