Action Comics #868 Review

Ok so I haven't done a review in like 2 or 3 weeks. Anyways, I love Geoff Johns and i absolutely love this Brainiac arc. It feels like such a big deal, and Johns (again) does a great job with his characters. Let me comment on that first. He writes a very good Superman, but he writes great supporting characters, particularly Ma and Pa Kent. You really feel their love for their son, and it really comes through. The scenes at the Daily Planet were great too with the various characters. Johns said he wants to reintroduce Supergirl to an extent, and I feel like he is starting to come through on that end. Johns, who is also a master plotter, puts in peices of the issue that is for future use. When Clark saw Kandor, that was a direct reference to his future Kandor story, which should be great as well. Brainiac comes off as a huge threat. He is a smart villain who will manipulate Superman to add to his knowledge. Superman gets an out for losing to Brainiac because he doesn't have his sun to give him his power, so he retains some heat there. I can't wait until the next issue, because the frightening Brainiac ship is coming for Earth. A part I loved, and credit goes to Gary Frank for this, is the look on Supergirl's face when she saw Brainiac. It is the same look in the last issue, when she said that Brainiac destroyed her home. Those little things make this issue near perfect for me, as well as this story.

Action #866 Review

This issue was great. It started off providing a really dark recap of how Kandor got stolen by Brainiac. This was a good introduction to this villain. The large Brainiac head was absolutely terrifying (I woke up this morning thinking about that head thing). The scene in the Daily Planet had it all. There was good character interaction, and Johns provided some humor (Yes, Clark did maintain eye contact). I am really feeling this upcoming story arc and I think it will provide the man of steel a nice challenge. I find the whole brain in space thing to be scary as hell. At the end we see Brainiac awake from his sleep after the robot detects Krypton blood. Weird. I found Frank's art to be outstanding, and I am really looking forward to this story.

Batman and the Legion of Superheroes

Summary:
Johns just finished up his Legions arc thing, so we get to start anew with a new arc. Oh snap, more Legions! But this time its with Batman. He says he wants to take the Legions away from Superman. He walks into the ice fortress and meets up with Lightning Lad and Superman. They don't like each other at all. Batman wants to talk to Superman privately. Batman tells Sup that he can't trust these Legions. Batman brings up the 3 different Legions. They were all bad basically. Batman tells him that he found 2 bodies in Gotham that had Legions flight rings on them. Karate Kid and Duo Damsel. Lad comes flying in demanding answers. Batman tells him to back off. They go meet up with Starboy because he has activated a flight ring in his time. He is in a mental hospital because he has suffered from schizofrenia. He talks about Karate Kid and how there is no cure for his virus. He brings up Danny Blaine. Someones messing with them. Garth plans to leave. He gets along with the Bat a little better this time. Batman departs, but we see who has been narrarating the whole time: the Time Trapper. ooooooo

That was aiit. I don't know wtf Johns is saying half the time, but the inclusion of Batman helped. I kind of have a gripe about how he writes Batman. Johns' Batman is really paranoid, much more than Morrisons. I feel like Johns does not understand the character, and hasn't bothered trying. He is a self proclaimed "Superman Guy". This issue was used to hype the Legions of 3 Worlds, which comes much later. It was a fun little read, but the next arc is going to be filler. It warrants a
